Some observations on the Bangalore to Goa bike ride

{[['']]}
My recent bike ride from Bangalore to Goa was quite interesting. Uneventful for the most parts...well the couple of major events on the trip have been posted already. But below is a list of some other interesting 'observations'....

- Dogs across rural India are on a suicidal rampage. They try extremely hard to get run over. Some fail, some succeed. Some end up taking humans with them to animal hell. The central government should seriously look into this problem. It might just cost them the next election if they dont pay attention to this.

- Old men in ALL small towns in Karnataka are on a death wish as well. They cross the road without implementing the look right-left-right rule. or the left-right-left rule for that matter. Looking in the direction they are walking, a bit faster then a 3-legged tortoise on sleeping pills.

- Sorry, this might come across as sexist, but it is true and drivers across India will agree with me on this. Women look only to the left when the traffic is approaching from the right. Then after having reached the center of the road, they will stop looking left, look straight and walk calmly and peacefully. I dont think they are on a death wish, however i am very curious to find out what in hell is going on in their heads. This 'phenomenon' occurred frequently during the drive.

- People in small towns and villages in Karnataka and Goa were extremely polite and hospitable. This very strange, especially if you are like me and have spent a large part of your life in Bombay. I did not appreciate this.

- Most of Goa and coastal Karnataka is fairly to very clean. Once again, being from Mumbai, i did not appreciate this. I am just too used to the filth, driving over garbage hills, dust storms, and gutter-cross (the city version of motor-cross).

- Om beach near Gokarna, Karnataka, is frequented by two people. Tourists who visit the temple and then come to check out the om-shaped beach, have a swim, eat some thing and leave. The others are backpackers who hang around Om beach's cheap hotels, have cheap beer and stare out at the ocean. I happened to be the second type. It was here that i discovered a third type of tourist. Over an entire day spent drinking beer and staring out at the ocean, there are several who were temple tourists (you can tell by the stuff they are carrying and clothes they wear) who get to the cheap hotels and join the rest of us in consuming cheap beer. They are a bit loud though when they are down a few beers.

I think that is all i can remember for now...
