Yes it has to be that septuanegarian Arjun Singh who has come up with the brilliant plan of introducing reservations at the higher levels of education.
Am not going to get into a debate on the rights and wrongs coz am sure there are lots of peolpe who have but i do want to make my 'two pai' of an addition to the debate
- These arguments / questions are based on the premise that reservations are for the minority
- If one has to do some basic research (Read: Google) / Census of India the figure of the backward castes / SC /STs across religions and various ethnic groups in India ranges from 35% to 50% of the population.
All i can say is it would be nice if sometimes logic and politics made strange bedfellows
would it not?
AND
- Why be selective about reservations coz the law (as it will be) is considered succcesful when it apllies to the general majority if not the absolute one (which is impossible in India in any case)
How would Mr Singh feel if we asked for reservation in the hallowed Council of Ministers.
I mean wouldnt the plight of the under privilged be better taken care of by someon from
that same background???
