Of High Courts and Higher Roads

{[['']]}
Mumbai high court "orders" that all potholes should be fixed by August 30. Else "action will be taken against the senior-most engineers in case the work is not done on time".

Few questions, in defence of our brothers at ALL the civic bodies remotely involved in road demolition (and construction):

- Is the deadline August 30, 2006, 2007,....?
- What is the definition of a pothole?
- Is there a room for some margin of error - like what if you did not catch a pothole that was hiding away in some galli?
- What if a crack in the road developed into a pothole overnight on the 29th? Would there be penalization for that as well?
- Is there a limit on how long the road should last? I mean, fair enough that all the holes are filled. But do that have to remain filled indefinitely? That would be an unfair expectation.
- If work is done on weekends to meet the deadline, would workers, managers, supervisors, contractors, their aunts and brothers-in-law be paid overtime?
- What if rains heavily during the next 2 weeks? Can the deadline be extended?
- Do the roads in the distant suburbs really have to be fixed?? C'mon, who cares about those unfortunate souls. Lets get real here.

Hope the courts can answer these vital questions as soon as possible.
