Cutting edge journalism

Saw this piece of self-laudatory news on the front page of Times of India today...

"We said heroin, they all said cocaine. They woke up Saturday morning, laughed and said we were wrong. We waited till the evening, laughed and said they were all wrong, all along. The other papers, the channels. All except The Times Of India. The only newspaper to tell you on Day One of the Mahajan-Maitra saga the party at 7, Safdarjung Road had tripped on heroin."

This is exactly why I love The Times. It can make an issue out of an ABSOLUTE non-issue and then act like they are doing some cutting edge journalism. This is a case where one guy is already dead and another chap is fighting for his life. Evidently in this melee the most crucial thing is to identify the kind of drug that they abused. Does this alter the case in any substantial way?

I love how indignant they sound about it about this trivial issue. It reminds me of an incident that took place when I was four years old. I had a bet with a fellow four year old as to whether he can shove a 50 paisa coin up his nose. After struggling for a while he managed to do it and then triumphantly declared "na na na na na naaaaaaa.. i was rightttt..you were wrooongggg!!!" Strangely TOI seems to sound alarmingly like that moron.

I also love the choice of words in the piece. "They laughed"...."We laughed"....Guys, let me offer you some advice. Firstly, show some respect for a guy who's died, even if it's because of a drug overdose. And secondly, do some REAL journalism!
