Trying to impress Mother India

Dear friends and siblings,

Why is everyone so blind towards Mother?? Why are you trying to change her? She is more than 60 years old. She's too old and comfortable in her ways.

Read my lips: NOTHING WILL CHANGE ABOUT MOTHER. PERIOD.

- no roads for her kids' cars
- no real policing or national security measures
- no accountability of her older kids running the show
- no real municipality to plan her kids' homes and societies and cities
- no education for her children
- no real hospitals or decent healthcare for her children
- no insurance for her children who die for her safety
- no difference if you vote or don't vote
- no difference if all her children get military training
- nothing the media can do to influence her kids
- no real support from her sisters in Pakistan or Bangladesh or the US or the UK or anywhere else for that matter
- nothing will come out of your little RTI applications
- nothing will happen from citizen journalism
- nothing will come of citizen meetings, peace rallies, peace marches, multi-religious shows of trust and the rest of it..

Mother India is only looking out for herself. She is happy in her ways. She has a perfect retirement planned for herself and it heads towards anarchy. She does not care for you or your idealistic dreams and plans.

So get a life, stop whining and stop trying to impress her.. Nothing is going to change. Don't believe me? Read this post in December 2009, 2019 and 2029. By then Mother would have cashed in on her retirement policy.

The Trouble With India....

India Shining? India Poised? I don't think so...

Here's Why - Businessweek.com

Highlights:

  • "India has underinvested in infrastructure for 60 years, and we're behind what we need by 10 to 12 years," says T.V. Mohandas Pai, director of human resources for Infosys.
  • Highways, modern bridges, world-class airports, reliable power, and clean water are in desperately short supply. And what's already there is literally crumbling under the weight of progress.
  • Across the state of Maharashtra, major cities lose power one day a week to relieve pressure on the grid. In Pune, a city of 4.5 million, it's lights out every Thursday—forcing factories to maintain expensive backup generators.
  • India's exports total less than 1% of global trade, compared with 7% for China
  • Up to 40% of farm produce is lost because it rots in the fields or spoils en route to consumers
  • India today is about where China was a decade ago
  • In elections last year in the state of Tamil Nadu, for instance, a new government was voted in after it pledged to give free color TVs to poor families
  • Indian truckers pay about $5 billion a year in bribes, according to the watchdog group Transparency International
  • The country's public debt stands at 82% of GDP, the 11th-worst ranking in the world
  • Nokia Corp. (NOK ) saw thousands of its cellular phones ruined last October when a shipment from its factory in Chennai was soaked by rain because there was no room to warehouse the crates of handsets at the local airport
  • Suzuki says trucking its cars 900 miles from its factory in Gurgaon to the port in Mumbai can take up to 10 days. That's partly due to delays at the three state borders along the way, where drivers are stalled as officials check their papers. But it's also because big rigs are barred from India's congested cities during the day, when they might bring dense traffic to a standstill. Once at the port, the Japanese company's autos can wait weeks for the next outbound ship because there's not enough dock space for cargo carriers to load and unload
  • Even relatively light rains can choke sewers, flood streets, and paralyze a city, while downpours are devastating...
  • When GE dispatched three employees to survey a potential site the railway favored in the northern state of Bihar, the trio returned discouraged. It took five hours to drive the 50 miles from the airport to the site, and when they got there they found...nothing. "No roads, no power, no schools, no water, no hospitals, no housing," says Pratyush Kumar, president of GE Infrastructure in India.
  • Agriculture is stagnant in part because of a lack of the most rudimentary of roads to get to and from fields
  • Unless the nation shakes off its legacy of bureaucracy, politics, and corruption, its ability to build adequate infrastructure will remain in doubt. So will its economic destiny.

60th Republic Day

I love all the optimism that surrounds Republic and Independence Day; the debates, the future of India, the achievers in the last year, the achievements, the causes, the concerns, the speeches, images, songs, SMSs, email forwards with ppt attachments detailing the number of Indians in Fortune 500 companies, etc etc etc....

However, we here at 'only in india' would like to celebrate India's 60th year as an independent Republic with a slight amount of....how can i say it...doubt, cynicism, suspect, pessimism, reality, whatever...in our true style..

Let us start with "Republic". Not sure if a large number of people in Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Assam, Tripura, Orissa, and Kashmir are too keen on being a part of the great Republic.

The Republic however in turn has been true to its republicees. Chopping of the RIT was a lot of fun. All the enquiries into scams, killings, rapes, booth captures, that saw the light of day in the last 60 years has also been very encouraging.

Correct me if i am wrong, but i would think in the last 60 years, the 60th year should technically have been in the top 5 or 10...right?

The last year was really really worth celebrating....

- Nithari killings - the work of the UP police should be a shining example for police forces across the world
- Blasts in Bombay - shit happens. A "foreign hand" was even confirmed.
- Blasts in god knows how many towns and cities in India - feels good if shit happens to a lot more people
- Some convictions in the 1993 Mumbai Blasts Case...yes i was celebrating this all through the night. 13 years laters almost all the foot soldiers will see some jail time. yipee..
- Gazillion suicides by farmers really shot up the business for pujaris taking on death ceremonies
- Bangalore is now called Benga#kluru0290@.
- Jawans killing officers. They are trained to kill afterall.
- Dengue. I just like the name. Just seems we seem to have resurrected a bug from pre-historic times. So cool.
- Sex scandal in J&K. Politicians accused. I dont believe it. No way. Shocking. No way. Its a lie.
- Verdict on Parliament Attack - the who done it is more entertaining that a Robert Ludlum novel.
- Rains. Now these things have been very strangely occuring for all of the 60 years of being a Republic. It really screws up the building or roads, sewage, water proof roofs and buildings. However, the Republic leaders have sorted this and replaced roads with rivers. How ingenius.
- HIV: Looks like we are going for gold on this one.

I know i am missing out on something....

ya ya ya..The Ash-Abhishek engagement. The Republic salutes your contribution.
